Dual boot with SATA RAID
 

I would like to try Linux so got Dapper Drake distro of Ubuntu. I have an XP system on a P4 with two 80GB SATA drives set up in a (Sis - fake?) RAID 0 setup. Rather than try to add Ubuntu to the RAID disks, I installed a 40GB PATA EIDE drive for Linux, installed it, and it works fine. My problem is that since then, I cannot boot to my XP system unless I unplug the power to the Linux drive. How can I set up a dual boot so that I can select XP or Linux upon startup?

err... are you running Ubuntu as a LiveCD or did you install it?

If you installed it then the bootloader should have detected XP when it installed on the MBR.

I installed Ubuntu on the EIDE drive. Bootloader apparently didn't see the software RAID used to boot XP. Tried it first with Breezy Badger but same result so I ordered Dapper, thinking it would recognize the RAID software but to no avail. I haven't done much command line work before but is there something I can do through a shell?

hmm.... not sure then. but I'd explore an alternate bootloader - try some of these links:

I think (but I cannot say with any certainity) that the 2.4.x kernel supported RAID better than the 2.6.x kernel does...
