Dual boot Ubuntu and Win 7. No root file system is defined error
 

Hi Guys,

I was really looking forward to testing out Ubuntu 10.10, I have absolutely no experience with Linux. I have two internal hard drives, one already has Win 7 installed on one of its partitions.
The other is completely empty and I formatted it to fat32 64k which my friend told me would be better for Ubuntu. In the Ubuntu install menu I chose to manually pick the partition it installed to. From that screen I could easily see which hard drive was the correct one. Underneath that table it asks for the Boot Loader file I think. I tried choosing dev/sdb ATA WDCWD5000AAKS-0 (500.1 GB) and just dev/sdb1, as when I searched for my error it said to make sure the bootloader file is on the hard drive you are installing to.
Both options get the error "No root file system is defined. Please correct this from the partition menu."

I'm not really sure where to go from here. Win 7 is installed on the first hd (dev/sda) and I thought Linux would be fine to install on my other hd.

Please help! :)

I thought I'd specify how my hard drives are set up, as it may offer clues...

Internal Hard drive No.1
30 gb ntfs partition for Win 7 installation

470 gb ntfs partition that I have lots of my stuff on, including most of my programs which I would really like to just leave alone. I don't want to reinstall all my programs and muck around with my pretty large music library.


Internal Hard drive No.2
500 gb fat 32 64k thats empty and I wanted to put Ubuntu onto.


External Hard drive No.3
1500 gb fat 32 partition for storage of movies, games, tv shows etc

500 gb ntfs partition for storing files that are bigger than 4 gb

Delete the FAT32 partition on the second internal drive. Just leave it empty.
During the install, select that drive and let it do a default install.
