Dual boot (Kubuntu 14.04) : windows 10 won't start completely after upgrade from windows 7

A while ago I upgraded Win7 to Win10 on my dual-boot Dell. The upgrade appeared to work, but I am now unable to get Windows to fully boot. Initially I didn't care because I rarely use Windows, but recently began work on a project that requres software that won't load on Kubuntu. Details:
  • After the Win10 upgrade, I get a message when booting into Kubuntu that it in essence says it is unable to mount /dos, press s to ignore and m to do a manual mount. I press s and Kuntu is fine. If I press m it gives me a command line and I have used this to update and reinstall GRUB but to no avail. I am not sure to what extent this pertains to the real issue, which is that Windows10 won't boot completely.
When I attempt to start Windows10 from the boot menu, it appears to start - the windows logo shows up, goes away, then returns then goes away and I am left with a blank screen. I tried updating and re-installing GRUB from Konsole (in Kubuntu) then tried to start Windows10 from boot. I had to do a recovery of the Windows installation, which seemed to go well. After the last reboot, Windows10 appeared to be installed, with the basic starter screen, but I was unable to get it to do anything - include shut down. I had to do a hard reboot. Trying to get into windows10 after that resulted in the same behavior of showing the windows logo twice and going blank.
I tried the GRUB reinstall again (feeling like this was going into a loop but what the heck...) and still get the same dead end if I try to boot Windows10.

Kubuntu 14.04 is working fine, as always. I am on the verge of doing a backup and re-installing Kubuntu and Windows7. Which is what I will do if no answer here.

    thanks for your time.

Have you checked the settings in the UEFI Bios?

Secure boot and such things....

I just tried using BootRepair, rather than just the update/reinstall of GRUB : The message about not being able to mount /dos is now gone when I go into Kubuntu and I am now able to get Windows10 up and running (it went through a lengthy recovery process to get there, but it is all good now). I suspect BootRepair took care of the UEFI issue. From what I understand, UEFI is the new Bios. Whatever....
Thanks for your help.
