dual boot for win2000 as primary and linux as secondary
 

i'am new with linux that's why im thingking of dual bootable between linux and windows 2000.

Your gonna want a couple things.

You'll need a partitioning software and download Fedora Core 2 (or 3 if it's at final release I need to check that)

For Partitioning I Recommend Partition Magic but last time I checked it was $70 (what I shelled out) so shop around maybe you can find one for cheaper. Set out however much space you want for your linux partition (at least 6 Gigabytes for Fedora Core IMHO).

Next pop CD 1 into your drive and reboot. Follow the installation instructions until you get to the boot loader setup. The "default" OS will be windows and fedora core is kind of obvious.

The hardest part is partitioning once you have some space set aside for Linux on your hard drive start up Fedora Core and follow the instructions. If you want to feel more comfortable look up the anaconda instructions on the fedora core or red hat websites. either will guide you through the set up.

If you don't want to use Fedora Core you'll have to rely on someone else because the only other linux distro i run is Vector linux and that is on a laptop by itself.

i already have the two OS installed in my pc but the
probelem i encountered was how am i able to boot the
linux into my pc...since i have the two os.
it always boot to the Win2000 os :-(

hi,

you didn't install the bootloader at the MBR. That's why you can boot only into windows.
in case you didn't install a bootloader at all you have to install one (lilo or grub).

btw, it would be nice to tell us which distro you are using.....

Telling us what distrobution your using might help. Also to get into linux so you can set-up a boot loader you'll need a boot disk. I don't know if it's with all Distros or just this one, but in Vector linux if you insert the install disk and at the opening prompt use the command "linux root=/dev/hda2" (without quotes) replacing the hda2 with where ever your main linux partition is it should boot up without having to use a seperate boot disk (incase you didn't make one).
