dsl internet suse 10 (GNOME)
Hi,
I am extremely new at installing stuff in Linux. Well, I am using GNOME under Suse 10 and I have the very common problem with the internet connection. I found a forum where is described how to install a livebox in gnome. But since I only get my livebox in a few weeks I am still stucked to my old modem. This works fine under windows xp, but heh I want to move to the real thing, linux. So who can help me with this? I will give the description I have ( by the way all I did under windows was installing a few drivers and all worked): Device name: HM121dp USB ADSL WAN MODEM Device type: isdn Server type:PPP Transports: TCP/IP Authentication: PAP Compression: (none) PPP: multilink off And then there is the IP link of the server and client. B.T.W. a cook book explenation is extremely wellcome here. I tried configuring in Yast but this seems only to work during installation. cheers, chiraz |
At first I was like "DSL... PPP?!" To the best of my knowledge, ADSL uses PPPoE and standard ethernet cards (which are widely supported by linux). Since I was a bit confused by this, I did a Google search and found something (in ENGLISH!)

"WinModems are not Modems!" is a good site ( http://www.devidal.tv/~chris/winmodems/ ) and resource for modems under linux information. I'm still curious, is your ADSL ethernet? I have ADSL and my ISP gave me an external "modem" (which looks like a router) which has RJ45 (CAT5 cable) which I connect into an ethernet card in my pc. Good luck! |
