Exclamation DSL config. for Suse 9.2 pro, KDE, internet through SBC

Installed Suse 9.2 pro using KDE, from XP pro OS. Connecting to internet through DSL, from SBC. When I first installed could connect to internet, but now when i try going to a web address I recieve message "Unknown Host".
Of course I wouldnt have posted if this was something I didnt need resolved soon.

Or I would love more info. on commands, in command line for Linux, Suse 9.2 pro and KDE.

Thank you ahead of time to anyone who helps!!!

Well I can't think what you snag might be! maybe because I don't know what you're refering to by "SBC".

I mean, what kind of modem are you using ? The DSL service, is it a "cable" service or what? Does the modem (or maybe a modem/router) connect via ethernet or USB ?

Plus, when you did the install and got the connection, had you configured a fire wall? (because I had lots of probs with that and getting access to the net).

Erm, have you tried opening a terminal/konsole window and trying to ping something? like if you know the IP address of the gateway (the modem or modem/router), have you tried typing
Code:
ping xx.xx.xx.xx
where the x's are the numbers of the IP address for the device? or maybe try
Code:
ping www.yahoo.com
then if it's getting out, you should get replys bounced back (which you can stop with either ctrl Z or ctrl X - I can never remember which ).

regards

John

Well done comprookie2k, that's a brilliant link for the dsl config stuff. As for the -c 3 "thing" for ping commands, erm you'd have to forgive me, I am rather stupid, because I ALWAYS forget that!

The only reason I remember it is I don't know how to stop it if I forget to put the -c 3 after it.There is nothing worse than watching your box ping google over and over for no good reason.Thats when I start pushing buttons and hoping I will get "lucky".
