Drivers

Thanks for the help with mounting the NTFS partition I have.

next question - drivers. I have downloaded the linux drivers for NVidia, and think I have installed them correctly. The screen is now at 1024 * 768 and I get the NVidia logo at bootup, but when I run the hardware program in SuSE 7.3 the mouse goes mad and the only way of returning to normal is a restart.

The graphics card is a MSI GeForce4 Ti4200 8x 128Mb DDR. I've checked on the net and can't find anything - anyone here got the same card with Linux drivers?

I also downloaded the drivers for my soundcard - it's built onto my Soltek mobo but is a RealTek AC'97 6 channel audio. I can't figure out how to install the drivers for this, it mentions something in the readme about compiling but as a newbie I haven't got a clue.

Also to note (hate to be a pain!) when SuSE installed it never created or setup a SWAP partition, is this easy to do as I have Linux installed on a 8Gb partition and I realise I need about a 500Mb for swap?

Cheers
Luke

is the sound working?? if so you may not need to worry about the drivers

how much memory do youy have?? it may have decided you dont need one ??
I have 512 and have never gone into my swap ( I do have one though)

Hi Wrat, thanks for the reply.

This is from the Realtek website:

This Source Code is from www.alsa-project.org.
For driver installation, please follow below steps.

Step 1. unzip source code
tar xfvj alcsound.tar.bz2

Step 2. Turn on sound support (soundcore module, default turn on)

Step 3. Complied source code
a. ./configure
b. make
c. make install
d. ./snddevices

Step 4. Edit your /etc/modules.conf or conf.modules depending on the distribution
(Please refer to the attached modules.conf)

Step 5. reboot your machine

In terms of memory I have 512Mb that will be increased to 1Gb this weekend, but I would still like to have a swap partition installed, it's just knowing how to do it and mount the swap.

Thanks
Luke
