Let's see first sound and graphics:

Give us the o/p of:

Code:

# lspci | grep VGA

# lspci | grep Audio

Also tell us which OS you are using.

And you're aware this is a Linux discussion board, yes? Does the name of the group tell you anything?

If you intend to install Linux, we need to know which one in order to offer driver advice. If you don't intend to install Linux, you're in the wrong place.

Well thats why I'm here because I want to install linux on my compaq laptop and I need drivers for it and I wish to install the latest ubunto. What other information do you need?

Linux is .... different.

Generally you don't need drivers, things "just work"(TM) or they don't (and then you have some linux fun making them work).

So, just get a linux distro eg from http://distrowatch.com/ install it and see how you get on.
Make sure you keep your current win installation ("Dual boot") so you can still get on the net if you have problems.

Specific questions? Come back here. Otherwise, just get started.

Of course. The linux application that talks to windows networks is called samba, and all distributions can install it.

You're probably better off just installing Ubuntu. It is very likely that most of the driver issues will turn out to be resolved by default. But those that are not are much easier to solve from the context of an installed Linux version.

Thanks guys I will install it today and see what happens.
Thanks again.
