Driver Installation for Nvidia Quadro Fx 380 LP in redhat 5.4


Hi,
I'm new to linux and trying to install the driver for Nvidia quardo fx 380 lp in redhat 5.4.From the Nvidia site I got the driver for this card to be NVIDIA-Linux-x86-260.19.12. I did check version of the gcc and kernel built by the gcc version.
I also checked the following commands.

Make sure you have kernel sources installed for that EXCACT kernel you are running. As it is pre-built kernel, then you need to find the source package for that kernel as well.

You probably have installed the package: kernel-PAE-2.6.18-194.el5.i686.rpm
You also need this package: kernel-PAE-devel-2.6.18-194.el5.i686.rpm

Hi,
Thanks for the prompt reply. Could please tell me how to check the kernal source and the running kernel? Please check the output of the command.
#rpm -qa | grep kernel*
kernel-devel-2.6.18-194.17.4.el5
kernel-PAE-2.6.18-164.el5

I don't have kernel -source. Do you think I should have kernel source in the above output?

I think you are right my running kernal is 2.6.18-194.el5PAE but with the kernel-source it says kernel source not install. Could you please tell me what EXACT packages are required to be installed?

[root@angion-linux ~]# uname -r
2.6.18-194.el5PAE

[root@angion-linux ~]# rpm -qi kernel-source
package kernel-source is not installed

You have kernel-devel with matching version.

Anyhow, the nvidia driver installer looks for kernel sources in /usr/src/linux directory. Go to /usr/src and post the 'ls -la' listing. The linux should be symbolic link to actual kernel source directory and that might be wrong or missing.

Hi, I did the ls-la and using --kernel-source-path /usr/src/kernels/2.6.18-194.17.4.el5-i686, the error file posted in my first post was obtained.
Do you think 2.6.18-194.17.4.el5-i686 is not the right kernel for the run ??? Please let me know.

I checked /include/linux and there is no autoconfig.h file. Could you please tell me how to get the autoconfig.h file in/usr/include/linux ?????

as suggested:

Run 'make oldconfig && make prepare' on kernel src to fix it

Basically the problem is that while you have the kernel sources, you are not running your own custom kernel and therefore the kernel build system is not fully up and running.

Hi,
I don't have /usr/src/linux dir and when I executed "make oldconfig && make prepare" did not generate .config but stops.
Could you please tell from which dir I'll issue the commands ?
