Driver help
 

ok so i finally got Linux up and running on my computer. now i just need to install drivers. the only problem is i dont know what i need. do i need to download drivers for my motherboard or what? i tried to download some nvidia graphic drivers but none of them worked. when i tried to open them it said it cant read them and it wasnt in binary form, even though it said it was for linux. also, it seems my fan is much louder then it is when im on Windows, is this normal?

Please specify which Linux distribution & version, and supply complete hardware specs so we can help you.
Also, most distros come with all the drivers you'll need. Please say exactly what your issue is, what you've tried & what error msgs (exactly) you got.

im using Ubuntu, i have an A8N-SLI Deluxe motherboard. i have no sound. and when im running a screen saver or try to play a game its really really really choppy.

Linux comes with most or all of the drivers you need--that is one very big difference from Windows.

Take the problems one at a time. Sound: Have you looked at the control panel functions?
In a terminal, run dmesg to see if the sound card was detected. You may be able to use grep with some keywords, like so:
dmesg| grep keyword
