rtl8169 chip - very popular card
edit: Maybe not a problem. See bottom notes
yet the r8169 linux driver no longer supports THAT chip?
(I understand the historical root of the driver name.)
These worked fine in my systems previously.
Why?
Am I missing something?

more:
I have 5 of these cards, one still in shrink-wrapped box (after upgrading systems over the years).
NOW, I want to split up my internal net.
Try to add second nic - not recognized in system.
Disabled onboard Marvell-chip nic - still not recognized in system.
Both lights would go on, but nothing in idconfig; no traffic.
modinfo r8169 - surprise!
no listing of rtl8169 chips
Searched - I can't tell if the DKMS r8168 driver will support it.

Lubuntu 16.04 - 6+ systems here at home
(my first ever LQ question - newbie here, not really new to Linux)

(edit) Later:
I tried more of my cards.
An older card (per mac id) works. I will try them all.
