Welcome to LQ!

We don't know what have you tried, you could've said that.

Try this;

There's a .deb package on Adobe's site. Download, save on the Desktop, install.

Use this code:

Code:
cd /home/you/Desktop
But replace you with your username.

Code:
sudo dpkg -i package.deb
Replace package with the package name.

Enter password for sudo ( you won't see it as you type ) and hit <Enter>.

Hi Levi and Welcome to LQ!
Alan has suggested a good way to install the flash player but you give us very little information. The more information about the system (distro, version, etc.) you use, the easier it is to help you. What version of Xubuntu are you using? What browser and version are you using? How have you tried to install the flashplayer? Things like that are good to reveal if you want help.

The version of the deb that Alan mentioned is for 8.04 or above. If that fits your situation you can try that solution otherwise you'll need to use another method.
Cheers,
jdk

The simplest way is...

sudo apt-get install xubuntu-restricted-extras

This will install MP3 codecs, Flash Player and a bunch of other non-free stuff

Thanks Alan

I tried to install the .deb file from adobe. This is the error i got.

dpkg: error processing intall_flash_player_10_linux.deb (--install):
cannot access archive: No such file or directory
Errors were encountered while processing:
intall_flash_player_10_linux.deb

Then i thought to try extracting the compressed files but i extracted the .deb file and got two files that are .tar.gz .

Being a noob, all i know is that .deb and .tar.gz are file type. like .jpeg right?

also i tried the "sudo apt-get install xubuntu-restricted-extras" but i got this error

To JDkay

I am not sure what .0 version of Xubuntu. I use Mozilla firefox. In the about section on my browser it says this "Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.1.6) Gecko/20071008 Ubuntu/7.10 (gutsy) Firefox/2.0.0.6" if that helps any. How can i find out what version of Xubuntu i have? Thanks a bunch.

Your problem is that you have an old version of Xubuntu. You could see which one with this code I guess, because I'm using Debian;

Code:
 cat /etc/ubuntu_version
You have your repos set for old version of the distro, which I guess is no longer supported, that's why you see errors.

If you can you should use newer distribution.

You can try to install FP with tar.gz. package. Be sure to be in the right directory before installation. These are the instructions from Adobe;

Quote:
  1. Click the download link to begin installation. A dialog box will appear asking you where to save the file.
  2. Save the .tar.gz file to your desktop and wait for the file to download completely.
  3. Unpackage the file. A directory called install_flash_player_10_linux will be created.
  4. In terminal, navigate to this directory and type ./flashplayer-installer to run the installer. Click Enter. The installer will instruct you to shut down your browser(s).
  5. Once the installation is complete, the plug-in will be installed in your Mozilla browser. To verify, launch Mozilla and choose Help > About Plug-ins from the browser menu.

Good news. Somehow, with all this trial and error. Youtube video works. I found out that i now have a sound card problem. My mother board info is: Motherboard w/NVIDIA C51MV w/o 1394 (FRU) and the part number is 4001189R. Do I need to find a linux dased Nvidia driver to fix my sound? I know that my soundcard, videocard and ethernet is all integrated into my motherboard. The video and ethernet work fine. But not the sound. What should i do?

I also found out that i have Xubuntu 7.10. I have downloaded the latest .iso version of Ubuntu and plan to upgrade soon.

Not surprisingly your sound card is the device labelled "audio". You got it in one! Now you know what sound card you have. So now you need to know what driver goes with your card. A search on LQ should turn it up or else googling something like alsa MCP51 and see what you can find.
Cheers,
jdk

Could the OP post the output of lsmod, as well? For my NVIDIA MCP61 audio, snd_hda_intel (amongst others) is being used.

Yes, snd_hda_intel seems to be used for the MCP51 as well. you can try
Code:
sudo modprobe -v hnd-hda-intel
and that should install it if it doesn't already show up in the lsmod output.
cheers,
jdk
