DrakX

When I try to install Mandrake 10.0 official (the isos on the Mandrake website), DrakX starts, but after I press enter, it goes into an old-school text based installer. Is this a problem (it has happened after multiple burns also)

not sure what is causing the text based install, that's not normal of any mandrake install i've ever done. the text install is not that bad though, it basically walks you through everything the gui install does, just be sure and read every step so you don't miss something.
good luck.

I'm not scared of the text based install (Ive done way too much DOS), but I was wondering if it would install incorrectly and screw things up.

i never had any problems with text install. as i said before read all the options carefully. i'd recommend not using a gui at first boot when you get to that option, so you can configure it properly.

the program is not loading into memory, there is a fatal error. Also, it is installing from disk one, but the Valid Mandrake disk that it asks for is disk 2.

did you md5sum the iso's? sounds like you may have bad media of one sort or another.

I used "Smart Buy" 4x CD-RW media at 4x. Thats probably the culprit. Would this be fixed if I used imation or something?

i've had more success w/ memorex than anything else. to be sure before you burn, you need to md5 the iso, that will eliminate at least one possibility. here is a reference how ot do so just in case.

good luck.
