Unhappy Downloading ISOs from Windows XP

I am in the process of trying to add linux to my current Windows XP machine as a second OS using Partition Magic. The problem I'm having is figuring out how to download the needed ISOs. Any time Iiiiiiiiii click the desired link to download I get a "404 not found error". When I try the "save as" option I get an error. I can go to the mirror sites directly, but it is not clear to me exactly what files I need to download in order to be able to create a CD that will enable me to install linux. I am trying to download ubuntu distro as it was the one recommended to me. This site's section on downloading could use a lot better documentation, unless this is supposed to be a site strictly for linux gurus.
Any help would be appreciated.

Mike

What distro are you trying to download? This site has http://iso.linuxquestions.org/ . Since the file sizes are huge, I like something like Free Download Manager, which is freeware and lets you resume downloads from where you stopped, so you can download over a few days. To download it, here: http://fileforum.betanews.com/sendfi.../1/fdminst.exe and click on "Download Now". Hope this helps.

I am trying to download the ubuntu distro as detailed in my orignal post. I was at the section of this site that you linked to and none of it made much sense that was why I was asking for help. The section on downloading does not provide direct links to the files I need to download or tell me explictly how to get them.
