Downloading + Installing Lycoris
Hi, I've never used a Linux before, but have a blank (I blitzed the whole hard disk after years of neglect had left it on its knees) but fairly slow moving PC which I would like to refurbish. I am FED UP with Windows XP and have decided that the best Linux for me would be Lycoris.
1. How do I download and burn the required files to disk? (I have already found a mirror site with the £Free unsupported Lycoris)
Not that I oppose use of Lycoris, I am curious why you are choosing it. Anyway, all you need to do is download the iso files from whichever distribution, burn them to a CD using a burning program of your choice (Burn CD Image is a common menu option to do this) and then boot the computer with the 1st of these CDs in its drive. A bios change may be required if it is not set to boot from CD.

Thanks I chose Lycoris because it looks similar to and appears to work like Windows XP. The PC i'm refurbishing is for a pensioner (Well, active 65 yr old!) who has only ever used Windows XP, I don't want to scare her! I'm also going to try out Xandros. Which would you recommend?
Well, I'm not too familiar with Lycoris and Xandros, but I fully understand your reasoning for choice of distribution now. Like I said above, just burn and boot the CD(s) and it should be fairly straight forward.
