downloading and installing

After 4months I have finally got a Linux system on my machine. I am running Suse 7.3 personal I know its old but I know nothing about Linux.
Question How do I download and install programs ?

I would like to use Firefox and Thunderbird. Last night I managed to download Firefox but it has disappeared and I cannot find it.

I must have done something wrong but don't eevn know what I did wrong.

One syllable words would be a great advantage please.

Easiest way to install/remove software is to use rpm's. http://rpmfind.net
get the package and install it like this:
rpm -ivh <package.rpm>
You can also use Yast (accessible from the menu) to upgrade ur packages.
