Downloaded pics opens automatically in Image viewer

Everytime I download a pic on my computer it automatically opens in Image Viewer (the icon with the eye)
Since I download A LOT of pics (can't get enough of them) it gets ever so frustrating having a kazillion Image Viewer windows to close every few minutes.
How do I turn this off??? plz

Understand that you gave a very general description here.

You didn't say whether you're running Windows, iOS (MAC), Chrome, Linux, or something else.

You didn't say what browser you're using, or what program/application you're using to download these pictures.

Typically a browser can have a setting for when you download a photo image, it will display it in an image viewer.

Also typically you can disable this feature.

You may want to check the Welcome to LQ FAQ for some tips on how best to relate your question.

For starters, you ought to relate the operating system, I'm guessing it is Linux. Then you ought to relate the distribution you're using, what release it is, and then what browser or application you're using to download pictures.

this is only a 100 percent GUESS

as no information really was posted , just inferring things

that "eye" icon is maybe "eye of Gnome" a image viewer and that is set as default on a lot of Gnome desktops

then
seeing as Firefox ( or iceweasel) is the DEFAULT browser

you did not configure firefox ( like you would have had to have done on Windows using FF )

edit/preferences/ "helper applications"

or

you did NOT select " save as " in the firefox dialog BUT instead selected " OPEN WITH "
