Downloaded Open SUSE. Using XP. How do i get it up+running

Dear Fellow Linux users

I just downloaded open SUSE KDE 4.0. At present i am using Win XP with 1 GB of RAM and a pentium 4 processor. the icon representing SUSE on the
Win desktop is deemed by Windows to have an unknown file association. With this in mind i have 3 questions:

How do i get the distro running

if it is not possible to do so with this distro on my system.Which Distros are suitable

how do i get them up and running

your sincerely

Noel Egan

What you have downloaded is a disk image (CD or DVD). Use your burning SW to make a CD or DVD. Be sure to use the "burn from image" or "burn form iso" option--ie don't just copy the file to the disk.

To install, you need to create empty space on your drive. I think XP will do this, and there may be a utility as part of the SUSE installer. For starters, free up ~10GB for Linux.

Note that "free space" here means unpartitioned.

If you have been using xp on your computer for any significant amount of time it would be a good idea to run disk defragmenter before you re-size and install.

All of the questions you asked are answered in detail on the opensuse page, click on the green icon in the center - "Discover It" - and you will be taken to a documentation page with a number of links to user documentation including installation.
