Downloaded Linux. now what?

I have downloaded linux-madrake. I have it on my computer and have tried to burn it to a cd. However, it's too large a file for one CD. What do i do now? How should i break it up to burn onto multiple CDs soi that when i boot from CD linux will get installed? For instance, the MANDRAKE folder is too large to put on one CD, it has the folders: base, mdkinst and RPMS. How do i break these up? Should I break these up? What do I do?

I know i can buy this on CDs, but i would like to learn how to do by downloading from the web.

Thanks,

Chris

When you go into the directories, is there just one or two files in there? Something along the lines of *****.ISO or *****.bin? If there is then that means there is a cd image that you need to burn. Use a program like Nero do to that.

I would guess that you'll be making three seperate CDs. One for each directory.

no obvious iso

i was looking around and saw what you are talking about at RedHat where you can download three separate .iso files that are labelled for each disk.

however, with Mandrake this doesn't seem to be th case. There is the Mandrake>base|mdkinst|rpms folder and there is an isolinux folder with no obvious files of any install use.

I think i'm just going to download redhat and install that instead ... unless there is a better recomendation.

Thanks

Chris

ok, regarding what you downloaded:

u should have gone to an ftp site and download the 3 *.iso files
then u burn them to cd's with capacities of 700 megs, not the old 650 meg cd's (or if you are using cdrw's, use the cdr's with 700 meg capacity) this should be for any linux distro u download

and u should never have to separate the folders, that would not work

here is exactly what i did.

ftp'd the files to my win xp desktop.

then opened roxio and burned each .iso file to a seperate cd.

then i tried to boot from cd 1 and nothing came up.

Any suggestions?

you cant just drag the ISO on as a data cd.

For a guide on burning isos, go to linuxiso.org

For Roxio, all you have to do is double click the ISO, leave all the settings in tact, and just burn.
