just an idea: can you try downloading (I suppose you need http) with qbittorrent? i'm not sure but it may be able to download from http as well. and it is quite well.

Download manager for what? There are several for Firefox and Chrome as plug-ins, as well as several that stand-alone on Linux. You could start by putting "what are some good download managers for Linux" into Google, and try some of the suggestions there. And if you provide details here (like what you're looking for, version/distro of Linux, etc.), we might be able to give you a suggestion.

How you get software depends upon which distribution you use. I, as your icon suggests, you are using Ubuntu you would go to software centre and search for download manager or if you like the look of uGet search for that.
Personally, I like the command line for downloading so I can instigate it through SSH from another machine so I like wget and axel.
