Download file into directory as root?

I want to download a file into a directory as root (i.e. usr/local/src). I get a message saying that I don't have permission. Is there a way I can download the file as root without logging in as root and without changing permissions to the directory to accept a regular user.

Have you tried using su?

type su and hit enter
type in root password, hit enter
copy or move the file from your home dir to the target dir.

No problems with installing Slackware, Red Hat or Mandrake. I had problems with Debian, but that may be me.

For work reasons I now dual boot between XP and Red Hat. All works well.
