download distro

is it safe to use a download manager to download linux distros? you know that actual isos?

pixellany 06-06-2006 08:42 AM

Downloading an .iso file for Linux is no different than downloading anything else....

Safe for what? you are not going to damage anything by downloading.

i meant with a download manager that downloads the file by parts

If you mean can you get a working download, when it is finished, yes. As said above it is just a file. The most important thing is burning it as an image so it will work when you are done, not just burn a file copy.

I have a related question...

Why are most distro's posted on the web/ftp as ISO files? Why not RAR, 7z, or Ace compressed archive volumes for smaller downloads? This is the way pirated iso's are distro'd like Windows XP!

not quite sure what you mean by that. its free and could be downloaded unlike windowxp but yeah people should buy from authorized distro sellers' so that the money goes to the concerned distro maker|vendor instead of some pirates' pocket.

I'm quite sure that they are already compressed.
