Question Download & install software for Linux Mandriva one 09 spring

Hi all,
I'm totally new to Linux an have recently loaded and set up Mandriva One Spring '09. However, when I download a new program, such as Thuderbird 2 email, I am not able (or not informed enough) to open and install the zip file. It is a tar.cz. This is the same with several other downloads.
I'm eager to hear from you all.
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to LQ.

Please use the command 'urpmi' for all package install,
or use the Package Manager.

Finding a program : urpmq <name>
Installing programs, example :
su , password
urpmi thunderbird
( May be already installed ? )

http://wiki.linuxquestions.org/wiki/URPMI_or_rpmdrake

http://wiki.mandriva.com/en/Tools/urpmi

http://club.mandriva.com/xwiki/bin/view/KB/BasicsBrpm3

'urpmi' will download and install a package build for
Mandriva 2009.1.
Only in very rare ocations, you will benefit from a
tar.gz file, which you will have to build yourself.
.....
Good luck !
