download and install problems

Hi I have downloaded and used etcher to convert to a bootable usb and once got to the live version but not again since. Why do we need to verify, integrity and authenticate to install? I'm having trouble understanding how to do these 3. I've been trying to find a step by step video to lead me without sucess. What/why/how should I download--torrent or mirror? I am so tired of problems with windows over the years.

Failed ti load image EFI\\BOOT\max64.eft : Not Found
Failed to start MorManager: Not Found
Something has gone seriously Wrong: Import_mok_state() failed

Verify: To ensure that no bits were modified during the download.
Integrity: To ensure that you downloaded legitimate software instead of malware whose author managed to hijack the domain name or IP address of the download source.
Not sure about authentication. Perhaps you mean you need to register with the software provider first?

There should be instructions on the download pages.

Torrent can be faster and is obviously easier on the mirrors. Downsides: Your ISP or your firewall may not allow it, and you need special torrent software

Well yes, but this is not really related to your question, I guess. My opinion: Windows works well when it does, and Linux works well when it does. Personally, I am better equipped solving Linux problems.

This output is garbled, but it indicates that you have a UEFI boot ROM that is unable to find programs on the EFI system partition (ESP).

Perhaps you downloaded the BIOS version of whatever software you want to insall, in which case you need to switch your computer to BIOS. Perhaps something broke your ESP before or during the installation. Perhaps there is no ESP at all. Perhaps you didn't verify the download and copied a broken file to your USB drive. Or the USB drive itself is faulty. Many possible reasons.

If you revealed what precisely you are trying to install, what you downloaded and what steps you took, I or others could provide better help.

You should check the hash code for the downloaded ISO file. If you look at Download Linux for Linux-Mint 19.2

you will note a ISO file with a associated sha256sum that can be used to verify the downloaded ISO. Look at HowToSHA256SUM - Community Help Wiki to understand how. You can 'man sha256sum' to understand the command and options for cli.

BTW, some ISO provide a md5sum hash code to verify the ISO file. Just 'man md5sum' to understand operation from the cli.

EDIT: If the above wiki is confusing then use this; How to verify ISO images - Linux Mint

Hope this helps.
Have fun & enjoy Gnu/Linux!

How about I start over.
Good Morning. I've been trying to install Cinnamon 19.3 and I have tried several downloaded ISOs to a usb and also one usb install I just bought for 19.3 and one DVD I bought for Cinnamon 18.0 (which at first came up live about a week ago but not any more) that I had purchased about 4-5 years ago. I bought both since I could not boot to install and I thought it must be my download and I keep getting the following error

Failed to open \EFI\BOOT\mmx64.efi - Not Found
Failed to load image \EFI\BOOT\mmx64.efi - Not Found
Failed to start MokManager: Not Found
Something has gone seriously wrong: import_mok_state() failed
: Not Found

I've tried both enabling Legacy Mode and disabling Secure Boot to no avail. Any ideas what to try next. I'm thinking it must be a setting on my computer since one of my downloaded ISOs booted to Live but only one time, the next time it errored out and the 1st time I loaded my old bootable DVD with Cinnamon 18 it loaded live about a week ago but now gives me the error.
Thanks, Mike

In the bios disable secure boot, fast boot, legacy mode.

windows power settings advance options disable fast boot. I think it is under "what the power button does" in the power settings

Thanks, I'll try that, if it works do I revert back to the original settings afterwards. Is the common to have to do this?
Thanks, Mike

Well I tried that and I still get the same error. Funny thing is when I put my Cinnamon 18 dvd in it booted from the dvd to the 4 options to start screen and I ran the integrity check and it passed and the I tried start compatibility mode and it and it failed to start the xserver and said it is likely that it is not set up correctly and would I like to view the xserver outputI to diagnose the problem and I said yes and then it said before reporting any problems make sure I have the latest version and then a bunch of computer language and then I went to a linux login screen that wanted a password and userid, what would that be?

Could I copy my ISO on my usb I downloaded or the one I purchased to a dvd and try that. It seems like a dvd might work with your changes. Thanks, Mike

Well, I thought I had tried everything and I remembered a utube that showed a simple fix. I thought the video was poorly done and had no audio so I did not give much thought to it. Well, I went back and looked at it and I thought it's worth a try so I did and IT WORkED. I can boot from my usb and the one I bought by making this simple 4 letter change on the efi/boot/grub verbage.

https://youtu.be/ranBNkMV8k4 Failed To Open \EFI\BOOT\mmx64.efi - Not Found - Linux / ubuntu Dyono Green 2:53 Oct 9, 2019 renaming grubx64.efi to mmx64.efi
go into efi—boot==change grubx64.efi to mmx64.efi

What do you think, is there anything else I should do.
Thanks, Mike

Well after a lot of searching and reading and trying to install onto my 2nd ssd I thought why not use the kiss method (keepitsimplestupid) and remove my ssd with Windows on it so the system does everything for you and here I am, it is installed and I have set up timeshift (I selected ray Rsync and all settings, is that a good choice ?) and there were no drivers that need updates and then I updated everything. So far so good, finally. I got a lot to learn but I am excited. Now I have to put my Windows ssd back in and figure out how to set up the boot sequence. Thanks everyone. Mike

solved, download and install problems solved, I think

Well, after watching an untold number of youtubes and reading the same amount of posts I finally got Linux 19.3 installed and had the usual problems with realtek drivers which I got resolved and then the problem came back so I solved it by getting a Panda wireless usb adapter with an antenna and my wireless works okay now. After trying sooo many thing to get realtek working I had watched enuf videos to reinstall Linux and set up the partitions the way they should be by using the something else option (Thanks Joe Collins and others for your down to earth video for newbies). I'm at least beginning to fell a little more comfortable with what I'm doing. Next I want to get onedrive running inside Linux so I can access my files. I think I've been to a million websites. I have 2 ssdhd in my laptop, one for windows and one for Linux. Thanks, Mike
