Question doubt in echo \a for beeping an alert


Hi there,
Below is the shell script that I am writing to beep an alert but listen to nothing.
Code:
#!/bin/bash
echo Listen to the alert!
echo -e "\a"
echo listened ?
Kindly tell me where I am wrong.

For alerts etc, I usually use the program 'beep'. It should be installable via your distribution's package manager. Then just call it from your shell script.

I have speaker disabled on my box. You could use notify-send for visual alerts if using gnome.

sudo apt-get install libnotify-bin
