Dosemu - How to make it work?

I have gone through the howtos for dosemu and about the best that I have accomplished is a dos screen that tells me operating system not found. What am I doing wrong and where can I find a some information on configuring and using dosemu. The included howtos imho aren't very all that helpful.

I haven't tried dosemu but I did try Wine from code weavers. If you have windows and dos programs try installing wine. Don't forget to include dosver and then the version number in the path.

Try this:

http://dosemu.sourceforge.net/stable/

Look at section 'Binaries'

Read the 'README.bindist; this tells you to download
both:

dosemu-1.0.2.1.bin.tgz and
dosemu-freedos-b8p-bin.tgz

follow the install instructions.

If you want, don't create a 'mydos' directory,
just unpack the two .tgz files (they're actually .gz)
in your $HOME directory. You should then have a
dosemu/ which contains the indicated structure.

cd to dosemu and run the script (./dosemu) - you're
running dosemu in console mode. Do a 'dir' at the
C:\ prompt; you should get a directory structure that
looks exactly like what you see in /$HOME/dosemu/freedos.

Copy any programs you wish to run into the /freedos
directory. For instance, I run quicken in dosemu. I created
a directory /$HOME/dosemu/freedos/quicken and copied
all quicken files into it. When I'm in dosemu at the C:\
prompt I just issue quicken/q and it runs fine.

Any problems with scattered/garbled screen, change
console resolution to 640x480 in lilo.conf. For quicken,
best also to use "ibm" character set in
/dosemu/conf/dosemu.conf.

Hope that helps!
