DOOM on MDK???
 

I have MDK 9.1 and I also have DOOM for Windows 95. (I know, Im an old kinda guy)

Im kinda wondering if I could play this on a Linux system.

The simplest thing to do is to use a source port. Since id Software released the code for DooM, there have been quite a few of these--my personal favourite is jDoom, but Doom legacy is also worth a look. All source ports require you to supply the DOOM.WAD file from your legally purchased version of DooM. Its probably sitting on the install disk somewhere.

Both PrBoom and DoomLegacy should be available via RPMDrake if you have set up your Software Sources Manager to use external Internet Mandrake repositories. Just change the filter from "Mandrake Choices" to "All choices by..." (let's take "group" for this example). You could then look under the "games" group and find both these source ports and install them.

As noted, you would then have to copy the *.wad file from your CD to the installed folder so that the game would have the data file it needs to run, but that's easily done, and it works fine, in my experience.

I run legacy doom, which is fairly cool as it has opengl 3D support and other enhancements. Just use the wad as stated above.

So, in KDE how would I do this???

And what if I just burn Doom Legacy onto a CD and install it from there?? Meaning to this, is that I will burn the Legacy Installer onto the CD..........but, how would I get the Doom 95 installed, thats the question.

Doom Legacy is installed, or not? If not, install it with RPMDrake (if you have set up your Software Sources Manager to use external, Internet-based, Mandrake repositories, you should be able to find it easily; if you have not so configured your Software Sources Manager, go to Easy URPMI and do so).

Once it is installed, put your Doom95 CD in the drive (mount the CD if necessary, but Mandrake uses supermount, so it should not be), open a file manager, browse to the CD and copy the doom.wad file (whatever it's called), then browse to the folder where Doom Legacy is installed (you can look at the properties of the shortcut in your menu to see where its likely to be, but I'd start looking in /usr/share or /usr/local/games), and paste the *.wad file into that folder.

That's it. Or am I misunderstanding something.

No, you should install a Linux-native port, like the ones mentioned above, and copy the *.wad as already discussed.

If you really must run your Windows-installed version, try Wine.
