doom 1.8 install

I am a complete newbie at this linux stuff!! Anyway I need help installing doom 1.8 on red hat 8.0. The furthest i can get is to the read me file. As i am logged into root in the directory I cant figure out what to do next? If it runs a set up file, or what? SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE!!

Calm down
if there an INSTALL file in that directory? if so, read it.
if not, try the standard compile routine:
su root
make install
