Dongle connection to HUAWE E353 HSPA+.

Since upgrading to this dongle I have been unable to connect. It has been suggested that I may need to upgrade the operating system on my Acer Aspire One which currently has Linpus Linux Lite v1.0.9.E Any advice gratefully received

Hello, welcome to LQ,

Linpus is not really a Linux-distribution, I'd recommend to install a recent distribution with a modern kernel. It is very likely that the Huawai-device doesn't work due to a much too old kernel.

I'd recommend that you post some data about your laptop here (RAM, Processor), then we'll see which distribution will run on the machine.

Dear Markus

Many thanks for your response. My acer Aspire one's specification is

Operating system Linpus Linux Lite v1.0.9.E
CPU Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU N270 @ 1.60GH
System memory 512MB
Hard Drive 8GB
BIOS version v0.3109

Is this sufficient information for you to advise on an appropriate upgrade?

Many thanks

James

How about your experience with Linux? the hardware is too weak for Ubuntu or Mint. If I were you I would install Slackware (but I have about 18 years of experience with Slackware, maybe that doesn't help you ).

Slackware is on the jump to stable release 14. We have a very helpful and knowledgeable forum here at LQ http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/slackware-14/

I would recommend to go to there, read a bit about Slackware and install it. But be sure to install the new 14 release because the kernel (3.2.29) will support your HUAWAI.

If you need any help, feel free to post in the Slackware-forum. Don't believe the nonsense that Slackware is hard to use, it's the most simple distribution out there, but one has to learn a bit.

But if you don't want to install Slackware you may take a look at distrowatch http://distrowatch.com/

Markus
