Hi all,
I've been trying to setup a mixed network of Windows clients and a RedHat 9.0 server recently and have finally got Samba working as much as I need to. My next step is to try and get the Linux server running an email server. I recently bought a couple of books on Linux administration as I've never done anything like this before and they both seem to recommend Sendmail as the email server, however reading through the configuration options I am confused by the domain name and thus the email addressing schemes.
I come from a Windows background and so my domain name/workgroup name is a single word. Having read the sendmail setup sections of the books, they have used a "proper" domain name i.e. something.com and so all of the emails can be sent through
someone@something.com without any problems. Do I need to set up a "proper" domain name with a .com or .co.uk or whatever to use an email server (mainly for internal use, although will need to send external emails) or can I get it setup with just the single word domain name?
I think I'm just too set in my ways and hoping it all works like Windows...
Thanks in advance for any help or advice.
