It was a bad DDR memory I guess. A couple of days ago I somehow could not even start my PC. After a hard search I found out that the DDR memory failed completely and could not any longer be recognised by the motherboard.

I think the *freezes* I had compiling programs stem from the bad memory because they were very erratic. Anyhow, I got a replacement today and hopefully the problems will be gone.
