What makes you think you dont have iptables?
I think you can only have chains or tables in use at once, maybe this is confusing you?

Your distribution may have both ipchains and iptables. I think that RedHat uses ipchains by default, but is setup for both. What distribution do you uses?

Read his post, he said Slackware 9.0

cirkut5732 04-15-2003 02:16 PM

YES IM ON SLACK 9.0. I HAVE IPTABLES WHEN I OPEN kPACKAGE
(A APPLICATION TO INSTALL RPM'S ON kde. WHEN I OPEN THAT IT
SAYS I HAVE IT AND THAT ITS INSTALLED BUT ITS NOT IN /SBIN
OR ETC/RC.D THATS MY PROBLEM, IPCHAINS IS IN /ETC/RC.D
SO IF I UNINSTALL IPCHAINS WILL IPTABLES AUTOMATICALLY SHOW UP. I DOUBT IT BUT ANYTHINGS POSSIBLE, OR WOULD IPCHAINS WORK AS GOOD FIREWALL, BASICALLY I DOWNLOADED A IPTABLES SCRIPT AND IT WONT RUN CAUSE IT CANT FIND IPTABLES ANYWHERE, YES IM CONFUSED BUT I REFUSE TO GO BACK TO MICROSOFT..REFUSE!! REFUSE!!! REFUSE!!!!
THANK YOU ALL AGAIN FOR THE POST

*cough*

Stop yelling, all right?

Look in /usr/sbin/ ... no idea why you're
ranting on about ipchains in /etc/rc.d

Cheers,
Tink

ive manualy looked for it ive grep'd it..everything!!! well not everything i dont know everything! but my tables is supposed to be in rc.d and its not,

I have a file in /etc/rc.d/init.d/ named iptables. I believe this is related to starting the service on booting. My rcx.d/ directories have links to it.
However, whereis iptables lists /sbin/iptables and /lib/iptables, so check there.
