Does Rehat Linux 9.0 support SATA Drives

Hi
I've recently purchased a new pc, which have SATA hard drive. I tried to install redhat linux 8.0 but it failed to detect the sata drive.
will redhat linux9.0 detect my drive and does it have the support for such disks?

No, it doesn't. Well, it does, but you have to compile a particular kernel module into your kernel, and I have a sinking suspicion that you don't want to do that. And you're going to be hard pressed to install RH9 on a SATA HDD, even if you do have that particular module (can that even be done? I'll have to investigate that)

That said, you might want to give Fedora a try. It's the newest free stuff from RedHat.

Well, i tried fedora as well but the same problem occured. Would redhat enterprise do the job .If not then i guess i'll have to play with kernel .but i dont know anything about that so u guyz will have to help me out here.

I've never had a problem with FC3 and SATA drives. What sort of SATA controller are you using? Can you boot your install disk into rescue mode and run lspci to see if your hardware is detected correctly?

i guess debain or fedora might be able to do that coz rehat 9 is too old
