Does linux 2.4 have support for AMD64 bit processors??

hi ...

i am planning to buy a new system ... one with AMD64 bit processor...

And i need to install a new linux-2.4 kernel on it for my main project ..

I was wondering if linux-2.4 has support for AMD64..

I saw a X86_64 entry in the arch directory.. does it refer to amd64???

Yeah x86_64 is for 64 Bit processors in general. Not 100% sure, but I think the kernel doesn't have anything to do with the architecture (Correct me if I'm wrong)

It's all about the compiler. You can compile your kernel on any platform provided it has a suitable compiler. gcc works for X86_64 architecture. Therefore, you can compile your kernel for your amd64, and chances are high that you can find an already compiled kernel for your architecture on google.
