Does anyone know about repartitioning a hard drive with windows 98?
I'm trying to upgrade from windows 98 to windows xp, but I get a message that says that I don't have enough room. I found out the size of the partition is too small. Please help me!

Do you have only Windows installed --- or do you also have any other linux OS alongside it?

The parted magic livecd can be used to repartition your disk.
http://partedmagic.com/ But as Isix says, I am also interested in knowing if you have any other OS installed. If you haven't one then you could just use the XP install disk to wipe all your partitions. If you only have one partition and it's small then maybe it's time to buy a bigger disk. |
Hi,

M$ Win98 HDD size requirements are not as large as WinXP. If this is a older machine with a small footprint drive then you will need to add additional drive(s) to the system to allow you the WinXP install. The system requirements for XP will be at least 2GB with user space, preferably 4GB. You could use parted but M$ fdisk will work for you to partition the hdd for your requirements. Let the XP install provide you with the formatting. I suggest that you use 'NTFS' unless you need to stay with the 'fat' system. |
