Document install errored out

Hi guys. It's me again. This time, I was able to set up Linux 9.2 and it actually boots into KDE 3.1 GUI! Woo hoo! Wait, can't celebrate just yet! Now, when I try to install the online guide/document, it errors out saying:
/usr/share/doc/mandrake/en/starter.html/indix.html cannot be displayed.

The only button to click is Ok and once I click on it, it exits. Online document cannnot be installed.

What is going on here?

learning the more verbose end of linux is the paydirt of dealing with it, you should alt-f1 right after youve induced this error and see what the precise complaint is .. i see your browsing so do it and ill see how i can help before i take off

jcniest5 02-26-2004 12:52 AM

There is a message just below that and it says: No help entry of this type. And nothing else.

Oh, I forgot to mention that earlier in the installation, Linux 9.2 asked to provide International I86 disk, which I don't have. What is that disk? Could this have something to do with the error above?

"/usr/share/doc/mandrake/en/starter.html/indix.html"
ive never used mandrake but an "indix.html" is sort of unusual
go commando style into xterm, su to root (if you arent already)
run updatedb (i find it easier to wait a moment or two and build my database than to run find)
then do slocate "/usr/share/doc/mandrake/en/starter.html/indix.html" .. if you dont find anything do
slocate "/usr/share/doc/mandrake/en/starter.html/index.html" and see if you find something ..
maybe one of those direcrotys hasnt been created either, check that out too.
another thing to do would be to mount your CD, find the RPM for the docs, and rpm -i <that rpm>
it sort of looks like theres a typo somewhere in your mandrake somehow
you did install off a CD right?

jcniest5 02-26-2004 01:18 AM

Yeah, just tried the first two steps or so. SLocate didn't return any error or display. Went back to try install the documentation again with the same error. What is the file name for the documentation anyway?

And yeah, I installed it off my CD.

andzerger 02-26-2004 01:27 AM

there are different ones for different apps .. goto the directory with the rpms and do "ls *doc*" and that should list most of them

jcniest5 02-26-2004 01:38 AM

How do I change to the CD?

andzerger 02-26-2004 01:43 AM

do "mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom" then "cd /mnt/cdrom"
RPMS in redhat are in /mnt/cdrom/RedHat/RPMS
i dont know about mandrake

jcniest5 02-26-2004 01:53 AM

It says permission not granted.

How do I change directory?

andzerger 02-26-2004 01:55 AM

that would be the "cd" part of the second command in my last post

Thanks for you all your walk-thru. I have to go to bed but will try more tomorrow. Thx!
