do you think I should do a reinstall?

I'm having trouble. for one I got all the services turned on in the gnome menu/server settings/services in red hat, cause I don't know which ones I need and which ones I don't need.

I'm having trouble getting apache to start something is not configured right. Something is blocking port 443.

I'm having trouble getting my web-cam to work. It's a Phillips web-cam. I'm currently using kernel 2.4.18-14. Do you think I should recompile the kernel? I read somewhere that the module for this web-cam is built in to 2.4.18-27. But I'm not to sure.

I'm getting a few failing messages when linux boots. Ever since I messed around with the server settings. And I did not write down the default setup.

everything else seems to be in good order. it took me a while to get my computer to be able to play DVDs and to be able to play mpg movies and to get it set up so that it can play mp3's I had to sit and download lots of stuff and trouble shoot things that comes naturally for windows.

I had to install the java sdk to get programs written in java to work, but still lime wire is not able to run. I forgot what I did that's the sad part.

Should I just give up now. And just re-install and start all over. I don't mind learning.

Do you think it will be more propitious for me to do a clean install or try to trouble shoot this install?

Post the list (available, running, not running). It's a common problem, so many people can help you.

Any error message when you start it? Do you have firewall?

2.4.18-14 or 2.4.18-27 are not names of kernel versions (the version is 2.4.18 in both cases). They're build numbers. Build numbers mean you can download the kernel binary and install it (you don't need to compile).

Can you copy them?

You can always reinstall. I think you should try and make everything working without reinstallation. Then, if you decide your system is a mess, you can reinstall and make everything working in a cleaner way.
