hi,

You dont have to have M$. Linux will do. As far as the other question "iam having problems with cant access TTY;job control turned off" is concerned - I really did not understand what that ment.

H_TeXMeX_H 09-30-2008 12:52 AM

I don't understand either. But yes M$ must be installed on your computer or Bill Gates will run out of money. You wouldn't want him to die of starvation would you ? Such a kind, good-hearted person as him. It would be a tragedy.

joshuademendoza 09-30-2008 01:22 AM

the error message is cant access tty; job control turned off. or something like that.

i92guboj 09-30-2008 01:27 AM

You can use linux on almost anything, and definitely you can use it on any pc regardless of its manufacturer, color, size and shape.

About the error, we actually need to know what are you actually trying to do. What are you doing, what linux distribution did you download if any, how are you trying to boot linux, where do you see that error... Details, we need more info. Otherwise, we can only guess what do you mean. Be as specific as you can, remember that we have no idea what are you doing.

You see, that's just it. You keep telling us the same thing, with no new information.

1. What distribution are you using (ie; Ubuntu, Fedora, Mint)?
2. Is this during the installation or did that part go okay?
3. What are you doing when this error occurs (ie; booting, playing videos)?

1) Nobody can force You to use M$ and nobody will. If You can use Linux You can use it. Saving money ang gaining knowledge + whole bunch of new friends.

2) A)Check the media (CD/DVD).
B) Try other distros.

Dont know how to fix Your error but one of those two ca help.

Try installing Windows, if it fails, you have a hardware problem. Booting your ubuntu system and try to write down as much of the info as possible.

It isn't impossible that you have some hardware that isn't supported or is poorly supported by linux. or by the Ubuntu distro.

Linux

Hi,

You have provided too little information to assist with diagnosis.
You should look at the next two links to provide a little help to you;

Why not run both Windows and Linux? Dual Boot, and get the best of both worlds ... granted the MS on is not that great at the worst of times.

Welcome to LQ! I hope you get as much out of this site as I have.

Please, do yourself (& us, who are trying to help you) a favor -- read & absorb:
How to Ask Questions the Smart Way (as onebuck suggested).

When someone asks for more detail, especially on an error msg., give more detail, don't repeat your Q worded the same way -- it's a waste of space & unhelpful. At worst, you insult us by implying that we didn't read your OP (original post/poster).

So, take the time to recreate & record the exact error msg. that you are asking about; by hand if necessary; rebooting 10 times to get it right, if necessary.

Also, when asked what distro you are using, it is usually germane to include the version/release info. -- e.g., "I am writing this on MEPIS 6.0, which is based Ubuntu 6.06 LTS Dapper Drake repositories".
