do I need fedora?

Hello

I have a Lexmark z615 printer. On the Lexmark website, they have a Linux driver for RedHat. Now I can't really afford to pay for anything, but I was wondering if anyone knows if I can get it to work if I use Fedora or even if I can get it working on any distro with the right setup?

I have a HD install of Knoppix 3.9 (Debian style) with many errors, but if I can get the CD burner to work, I can get a proper distro on there.

I don't really mind at all which distro I use, just so long as it can make my printer work for now!

Thanks

Karl

You will have to check for which redhat version the driver is. If the driver is for redhat 9(which uses kernel 2.4) it probably isn't going to work on fedora 2(which uses kernel 2.6) or later.

Hi,

Ask google for "Lexmark z615 linux" and follow the first Link. There is a guy there reporting that he got linux drivers for that printer and they work with Fedora...

I don't give you the direct link because there are, indeed, two of them (the first two) to look at.

Good Luck!

Half a packet of cigarettes and a quarter of my hair later...

Googled around a bit and found that all of my hardware is supported by various distros respectively, so I'm assuming that if I get one going I can adapt the others.

I've gone with Mandriva because apparently people have got their Z615 printing with that, as well as their ATI graphics support.

I also have problems with searching because I'm a bit thick so any page which has the answer that I find just looks like gibberish to me! Still learning!

Once I get Mandriva on my system I'll be back for more help.

Thanks guys...
