DNS trouble
Hi,
My IP address is provided dynamically by my ISP, my ISP also provides the DNS server information dynamically. I can reach websites if I explicitly provide its IP address but if I try to use the hostname my system throws a "name not found error, error resolving hostname". I was wondering if you must specifically add the dynamic DNS functionality or if there is something else I need to do. Any help would be great. Thanks. |
i've never found dynamic DNS to work so well in linux. Then again, my ISP doesn't use dynamic DNS addresses .. so i can't really try.
call up their help desk and enter the information into your internet dialing program (kppp or whatever). alternatively, you might need to put them in the /etc/resolv.conf file Ask your ISP if they have a DNS server address they can give you. Other than that ... good luck |
My isp does use DNS, but it would never config properly with RH. I don't know what distro you are using but I had to staicaly set my ip's and default gateway...etc.
(just for your benefit you should change your profile to reflect the distro you are using. it sometimes helps ellicit a response) |
