I'm trying to set up internet on my redhat computer, but I don't know my DNS settings. I've heard you can find them on your ISP's site, but I have had no luck. I'm using roadrunner ( http://www.rr.com ).
If you have a working system, that ISP has online support. If you have no working system, phone there technical support, they should be able to give you the their DNS server IP addresses.
Question: Let's say I use a public access unix system through telnet and did the command "whois rr.com" and got the following output:
Code:
Domain Name: RR.COM
Administrative Contact, Technical Contact:
Road Runner HoldCo LLC (XGUKSSRMIO) abuse@RR.COM
13241 Woodland Park Rd
Herndon, VA 20171
US
703-345-3416 fax: 703-345-3607
Record expires on 30-Sep-2010.
Record created on 01-Oct-1996.
Database last updated on 25-Jan-2005 00:37:53 EST.
Domain servers in listed order:
DNS1.RR.COM 24.30.200.3
DNS2.RR.COM 24.30.201.3
DNS3.RR.COM 24.30.199.7
DNS4.RR.COM 65.24.0.172
They look like they might be correct. I'm not sure I understand how you got them. It souds like you dialed up to the ISP and did the command. If that is what you did, try them. If they work you know you are correct. If they don't, phone them.
I don't know how roadrunner works, but my DSL provider has an account set up for my username/pw that enables me to check DNS settings, news servers, email servers, etc. Perhaps RR does the same???
