DNS Resolver Cache
Dear Friends ,
I want to know about "DNS Resolver Cache" . What is the activity of it ? Is it a one type of cache where different types of URL request is stored ? Plz inform me.....thx |
dns cache is a cache of DNS requests that have recently been given to a machine. This means that your client doesnt have to keep querying dns servers over and over for the same thing.
This is part of most OSes. |
DNS resolver cache is a cache of all the domain names and their resolved I.P. addresses. It gets added to when you request information from a machine in a domain which your machine doesn't already know the I.P. address of, i.e. there isn't an entry in the DNS cache already.
So to say 'URL requests' is not technically correct since a URL could contain the name of a file, such as a .html file. The URL wouldn't get stored in the DNS cache, however, the hosting machines domain name and I.P. address would be. I am ashamed to say I don't know how to display the dns cache in linux but in windows you can see it using this command: ipconfig /displaydns Optionally you can pipe that through the 'more' application: ipconfig /displaydns | more |
on second thought's i'm not sure caching dns records on clients is the default in linux.
I'll have to check this out..... :study: |
Thank you for asking an interesting question.
