Unhappy DNS problem with RH 8.0

I've just instaled RH 8.0, I have an alcatel Home speed touch ADSL modem (is an ethernet modem not USB), ive configured my network card correctly (i think), and the ADSL conection too. it seems to work couse the indicators of the modem flash as i try to acces the internet. but the browser cant find the pages... if i ping the Gateway i receive an answer, but the rest of the ip adresses i've tried do not. is my network card configured wrong? do i have to change any settings in my ADSL conection. plase i really need help.

Datamisc,
May I know ur ifconfig? I wanna to know whether ur lan modem grap the ip or ur nic grap the ip. When I ifconfig, it came out with ppp 12.xxx.xxx.xxx and my eth0 is 192.168.1.2(assigned by my lan modem).
