What type of wifi card is it?

Wi-Fi on any linux is a bit difficult to setup. It may not work out of the box. You can't just use the .inf files. You probably need to use a program called ndiswrapper to get it to work (don't have Wi-Fi so I haven't tried setting this up).

You probably should load ubuntu, then start a new thread specifying what Wi-Fi card you have, what linux kernel you're using, and then you'll probably get some help.

You can also visit both Tuxmobil and Linux-on-Laptops to see if someone else has got wi-fi working on your particular laptop.
