Distro / C++ / programming / webpage design / webhosting / email hosting
 

Been missing from the linux world myself, I was hoping to do well in it, however, it just couldn't do so with having to leave back to the MS world.

Anyway,

I'd like to learn C++ / other programming languages and I'd like to do it fast.

I also need a good distro for myself: something that I can duel-boot **something else with**.

What programs are there for C++ programming, is it simular to C++ programming for MS software?

What programs are for webpage design and hosting?

Btw, I'd like to do something like FreeBSD or whatnot, however I'am unsure what they are, but I have the time and desire to learn them.

my favourites for c/c++ are kdevelop and/or kate
for webpage design you can use bluefish (but it is not a dreamweaver)
and for webhosting you can use apache

c/c++ you can use Glade Interface Designer (Installed by default in the newest version of GNOME? I don't use GNOME, that much though, and in fact it's only been since the new release of GNOME have I ever actually bothered about testing it.)
As for distro, there's like that "Really Small Linux" distro, I've never used it, don't know much about it, but it might do the job you're looking for?

Ahh, thanks so far, just need a linux distro, ill check out 'really small linux' though..is there anything *like* dream weaver, i like it personally, and are there tutorials on setting up mail server, etc.?

If you want to learn more about Linux I would recommend Gentoo for a distro. But depending on what you like, you may feel more comfortable with Mandrake, SuSE or Debian.

For webdesign I use Quanta and The GIMP. For server software there is of course Apache, PHP, MySQL and OpenSSH/OpenSSL.

No, Gentoo does not have apt-get, but it has emerge, which is even more powerful.
