distro beta tester(s) needed-High-RAM/Fast Processor preferred.

Having just broke the mold on DSL/Qemu, saving files to CD-R(yep), the ability to invoke multiple instances of qemu playing DSL within Qemu-all of which can save/delete files on CD-R, and stunning wallpapers/apps-Now I need a tester-My PC is a HP Pavillion a810n 1GB RAM/2.4GHz Processor.
So far, I can only open the 4th Gate(Qemu), as my processor/RAM makes things Sllooowwww.
What I'm talking about is Top Secret sh*t! With what I just made you can create Qemu windows playing DSL within a Qemu window playing DSL-ad-infinitum! All playing off a sub 300MB LiveCD!
My other script invokes multiple instances at once-it calls up 3 Qemu's playing simultaneously-and the scripts interchange.
Every qemu you open has the ability to save/delete files/settings-All come with myDSL/backup.tar.gz installed.
The 1st level (Gate) can save up to 60MB of stuff-the Gates following can each save about 9MB.
Wallpapers and apps/themes are pre-installed-but removeable-except for those on the top level of the CD-just edit the isolinux.cfg so instead of "restore=cdrom" it would be "restore=hdax" where "x" is your HD.
There's so much to tell here I don't have the space-but I need someone to test it, someone with High RAM and a fast processor.
A screenshot of the early version is here-that is qemu playing within qemu (2nd Gate), playing on CD-R live! Reply# 4

OK-screenshots are ready-can't believe nobody wants to test this Baby!
Saving files back to your CD-R is Righteous!
These are not "trick" shots either.

The full Power of this little DSL is as yet unknown-How many Gates can you get through?

Anybody wanna try my new Distro?
It's ready for Download and I need at least one volunteer...

Well, for starters most of us know that you cannot erase/rewrite a file on a CD-r disk (CD-RWs are different). That leaves your distro to be pretty questionable.

linus72 04-14-2009 02:55 PM

Somewhat true bro-but you can write/save/delete real files onto a virtual drive-contained within-go see the screenshots
I can save whatever into that "hd" and Qemu can access most things.
In a way your right-but your also wrong-I just did it again to be sure-I invoked Qemu in my LiveCD environment-installed some apps, deleted some stuff-and when I tell it to backup my stuff it does-when I put the CD back in and reboot-or play it out of thwe folder on my Desktop-my stuff is there...This is on CD-R
For a coder you could code and save your stuff-if it crashes-only qemu crashes...

Once something is burned to a CD-r that space can never be written to again. When you "erase" from a CD-r all you are doing is crossing the pointers to the data off the access list. The data is still there.

linus72 04-14-2009 03:37 PM

Thats true-but not exactly-
Example-I have files on my HD which I can access but not save to my CD-I need to get these files into the CD.
I upload the files to a filehosting service-then download them to my livecd-then save them into my "hd" on my CD-now I have put my files onto the CD and can tke them wherever.
Of course, that's not writing the files to CD-but it works-

I thought this had been done before, look at this page:
http://www.erikveen.dds.nl/qemupuppy/#8.2.0

linus72 04-14-2009 03:51 PM

That is similar-but I am using a CD-R, not USB.
It's not like writing to the CD-but it accomplishes the same result-files are saved/deleted/ apps installed/uninstalled.
I will give you the download link if you wanna prove me wrong??

Correct me if I'm wrong, but
When you make changes in qemu, install a program, configure background or create a text document, this will be saved in the img file from qemu on the HD you are using at that moment, not on the CD-r
If you want to safe it on CD-r, you need to have a program on CD to write the CD-r.
Did you try to use the changed CD on another computer to see if the changes are still there?
If you write the CD-r, and you finalise it, you can't add anything.

Also, what is the relevance of having 3 instances of qemu running DSL, except eye catching ?
