Question Displaying system messages in Gnome session - How?

As above really... I have a cron script to shutdown my system at a set time with a 5 minute warning so you can cancel it. This is so I can leave the system on to run the late night cron jobs but not have it using electric just sitting there all night.

The warning of the shutdown dislays in any text log-ins, but as I use Fedora Core 1, I'm in Gnome most of the time. These warnings don't get displayed in Gnome, so if I'm not keeping an eye on the time, the first thing I know about it is being logged out.

Basically, is there a way to get these messages to appear in my Gnome session?

Thanks,

Tim
