With Windows I can change the resolution with just a couple of clicks of the mouse. Can I do that with gnome?
800x600 works fine for Windows,but if I'm going to use that resolution in Gnome I'm gonna need glasses! I am just seeing Linux for the first time today. I would sure appreciate any help.

Well, not that I know of, and it usually depends on the distro as well. I know like Mandrake you can do it within KDE. Not sure though with any version of GNOME. You can however use Xconfigurator in Redhat, YaST in SuSe, Drakconf in Mandrake I think that is what it is called, and any distro using xfree86 you can use the xf86config.

in mandrake you can press ctrl+alt+(the plus or the minus)
to toggle the available resolutions.

I think tha homers answer apply to all versions of XFree86 provided that you set up more than one resolution using xf86config. It does for Red Hat. That is numpad plus and numpad minus.

dude. go to a console type Xconfigurator and follow the signs....easy enough...
