display problems installing linux

Hi all,

just a quick question, I have an amd 2800 1 gig of ram and a geforce 4 ti4200 card, and cant install suse 8.1 on my system.

I boot of the cd, and goes to the suse boot manager, i select normal installation, it will quickly load the linux kernal, but when i get to the first installation screen, my display is all mucked up (cant see or read anything clearly). I have also tried the safe mode insallation, and the same thing happens.
Does anyone know whats going on

Thanks in advance

Jeff

sounds like it is using the wrong driver to display your info, try using text mode until the install is done and that way you can pick your own driver for the card, if it still does not fix the display, install the nvidia drivers. Also, make sure the exact horiz and vert rates are being used. Let's hope it isn't lcd. If so, try connecting with an analog adapter.

Hi Jeff

With SUSE - is there some kind of advanced install option or special install option - if there is and you can get to a prompt - type:

linux vga=0

well if you didn't pay for that and you have a broadband connection to the internet , i suggest trying RedHat .... but if you would like to stick with SuSE , i fully agree with yowwww
