display problem

I'm logging in as user and then doing su - root to become root. At this point I can run gedit and it will display.

I then do su - user1 to do some work as this user and run gedit and it will not display

I'm connecting to a redhat enterprise server using nxclient.

I assume my problem is not doing something like xhost +machine

How would I find machine when using nxlcient please.

is there another way I can get around this?
regards, Mark

Shouldn't really reply because I've no idea. But it might be an idea to login as root immediately, i.e. not using su. Use the username 'root'.

Are you logging in at the console, or via a thin-client or X windows emulator?
